Merrell Walker, age 67, of Searcy, Ark., passed away after a long and courageous struggle with Alzheimer's on Friday, July 19, 2019. She was born on May 12th, 1952 in Searcy, Ark. Merrell is preceded in death by her parents Bill and Jessie Ruth Walker, and sister Hilda Diana Stracener. She is survived by daughter Erin Jackson (Alex), sons Ross Walker (Lindsey), Tate Walker (Allison), and Drew Walker (Candice), her sister Sue Kibbe (Charles) brother Billy Walker, Jr. (Cheri), her grandchildren Brynntley, Avery, Layton, Walker, Addy, Kylie, Eli, Sloan, Lindley, Dax, and Scout. Merrell believed in the power of education and was a dedicated public school teacher in Searcy for 28 years. She was a wonderful friend and neighbor and was always willing to offer a helping hand, an encouraging word, or a prayer for any she encountered along life's way. Merrell believed in the power of faith. She was a lifelong Christian – incredibly dedicated in her faith and in her relationship with Jesus. Her life was built on prayer and humble service. As a loving single mother, she was devoted to her four children and made countless sacrifices along the way so she could provide for them and surround them with affirmation and love. Merrell was a proud "Mimi" to 11 grandchildren that brought her much happiness and laughter. Despite the many struggles and challenges in her adult life, Merrell always managed to see the bright side, to live with joy and thanksgiving, and to find the beauty in all things. She will be sorely missed but her legacy of faith and love will continue. Visitation will be Sunday, July 21st, from 3-5 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home.
