Harold graduated from Proctor High School and began a lengthy career in telecommunications working for several companies including Western Electric, Southwestern States Telephone Company, and General Telephone & Electronics Corporation (GTE), where he retired in Jacksonville as the business phone supervisor in 1988, accumulating over 30 years of service in the telecommunications industry. In addition to his civilian career in the telecommunications field, Harold was drafted into military service and many times shared his remembrance of how he rode the train from Texas to Fort Chaffee, Arkansas, where he began his military service. He finished up his military service serving in the 189th Refueling Group Communications (Comm Flight) of the Arkansas Air National Guard. During his 30+ year military career, he received numerous accolades, commendations, medals, and service awards, retiring at the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. After retiring, he began reliving his youth of growing up on a Texas peanut farm as he loved to see things grow and spent much of his time gardening in his yard with his wife, Peggie. He also enjoyed working with tools and tractors and being a handyman in his shop, as well as collecting "how-to" books and listening to gospel music. Harold was a member of American Legion Post #71 in Cabot and Second Baptist Church in Jacksonville. He cherished time with his family, and dearly loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
