Cecil Earl Counce, 88, of Camden Arkansas passed away the morning of June 22, 2019 at his home after a long illness. He was born on August 22, 1930 in Dewitt Arkansas, the son of Earl and Edna Counce. He was raised on a rice farm, riding ole' Trigger, swimmin' in the creek, and attended Miss Edith's one room schoolhouse until eighth grade. He then moved into town, worked at the hardware store and finished high school. He served in the US Army for three years, after which he came back to Arkansas and played football at the University of Arkansas at Monticello where he received his degree in 1954. He then coached and taught at Camden Fairview High School through 1959. He worked at International Paper company as safety director until retirement in 1985. He was a long time active member of Saint Mark United Methodist Church in Camden Arkansas. He served on the city board in Camden and was quick to say "this town has been good to me". He built a life of love and happiness there. He was a mason for over 50 years with the Dewitt #157 lodge and a member of the Camden Lions Club. He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved working in the yard, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed cheering on his Razorbacks and Cowboys. On January 26, 1957 he married his loving wife, Barbara, who was by his side through the end. Other survivors include children, Steve Counce, his wife, Diane and their children, Rachel and Andrew of Birmingham Alabama; Carol Counce and her children, Davis, Golda and Greta Nunneley all of Fayetteville Arkansas; and one brother, Lowell Counce of Dewitt Arkansas. Proctor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In memory of Cecil, donations may be given to Saint Mark United Methodist Church, Camden Arkansas. Visitation will be held Tuesday 10 a.m.-12 noon at the funeral home. Cecil will be going home to his final resting place across from the family farm where a graveside service will be held 4 p.m. Tuesday at Varnell Cemetery, 2400 Mt. Elba Road in Rison, Arkansas.
