William Allen "Bill" Hieber, 66, of Jonesboro, passed away from natural causes on Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at his home. Born in Whittier, California, Bill grew up in Jonesboro and was a 1971 graduate of Jonesboro High School where he excelled in sports and was an outstanding member of the football and golf teams. He was a quarterback on the football teams that played for the State Championship. Bill was a graduate of Arkansas State University where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. Following graduation from ASU, Bill began a career in environmental services working with the Federal Environment Protection Agency and the Arkansas State Environmental Services. Through his career Bill lived in Miami, Florida, Tallahassee, Florida, Saudi Arabia and Seattle, Washington, before returning to Jonesboro in 1999 following the death of his mother. Bill was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Jonesboro and the Jonesboro Country Club. He enjoyed being on Norfork Lake and fishing on the White River. Bill was preceded in death by his parents: Wayne and Marjorie Hieber and a brother, Daniel Hieber. Survivors include one sister and brother-in-law: Beth and Raymon Harvey of Little Rock; one brother and sister-in-law: Jim and Phyllis Hieber of Little Rock; three nieces and their husbands: Sara Harvey Smith and husband Doug Smith of Santa Cruz, California, Shannon and husband Mike Huels of Little Rock, and JaqueLena Hieber of Gatlinburg, Tennessee; one nephew, Brian Hieber of Little Rock; and his two canine companions, Maddie and Merlin. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Emerson Memorial Chapel. Visitation will follow the service in the chapel.
