Kathleen R. McCarthy

KATHLEEN Ruth "Kal" MCCARTHY, 96, was born on September 4, 1922, in Williamsport, Pa. She died peacefully on March 23rd surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of Beatrice Gormley and James F. McCarthy and was the second of four children. Kal spent her formative years in Williamsport, graduated high school and moved to Washington, D.C., with her older sister Rita Brennan during WWII. Together they forged their future in the big city, riding sub-ways, traveling the northeast on trains, attending USO dances and working for the federal government. Kal never married but helped Rita raise her two sons, Mike and John Brennan. She was devoted to Rita and her younger brother Paul and served as their primary caregivers throughout their adult lives. Kal is survived by her younger brother, Danny McCarthy (Shirley) from Huntington Beach, Calif.; six nephews including Tim (Beth), Jim (Cindy), Dennis (Kristen) and Toby (Diane) McCarthy, all from Southern California; Michael Brennan (Jody) of Hot Springs Village, Ark.; John Brennan (Lorie) of Jacksonville, Ark.; and numerous great nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the ICU staff of St. Vincent Hospital in North Little Rock for the skilled and compassionate care they provided Kal during her final hours. Mass of Christian Burial will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at Holy Souls Church in Little Rock.
