Barbara Rose Beard Magee

Barbara Rose Beard Magee, 91, died on October 18, 2019 in Stuart, Fla. She was born in Toledo, Ohio on January 9, 1928 to Rose Wheaton and Charles E. Beard. Her family lived in Toledo, Oklahoma City and Dallas as they followed her father's career with Braniff International Airways, where he served as President from 1954 to 1965. She graduated from Vickery Hillcrest High School in Dallas, where she was the first homecoming queen. She attended the University of Colorado (Pi Beta Phi) and then transferred to Southern Methodist University after she met the love of her life, Navy Veteran, Jefferson Davis Magee III. They married on September 9, 1949 and raised three children. Barbara was a life-long member of the Episcopal Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Altar Guild and Women's Auxiliary. She also belonged to the Dallas Service Station Wives Auxiliary and the Junior League of Dallas. Barbara had a commitment to volunteering and a love for gardening, quilting, birdwatching and photography. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother and daughter-in-law (Jo Retzloff Magee). She is survived by her children Robert C. Magee (Little Rock, Ark.), Laura Magee Buchanan (Allen, Texas) and Molly Magee (Stuart, Fla.), 10 grandchildren (including Pattie Magee Weed, Laura Magee Moore (Richard) and Bobby Magee, all of Little Rock), seven great-grandchildren (including Parker Magee Moore and Richard Nile Moore IV of Little Rock,) and many nieces and nephews and their families. Arrangements are under the direction of Restland Funeral Home, Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made to Easterseals of Arkansas, 3920 Woodland Heights Rd, Little Rock, Ark. 72212, for the benefit of Butler Adult Living Center, where Bobby lives with 9 other individuals.
