Sara Margaret McCallie DuMond

Sara Margaret McCallie DuMond, age 86, passed away peacefully November 2, 2019, at DeWitt City Hospital surrounded by loved ones. Sara was born on November 24, 1932, in the Bayou Meto Community to Margaret Cockrum McCallie and Willis Arthur McCallie. She is preceded in death by her husband, William Louis DuMond, Sr., her parents, and two brothers, Adrian McCallie and Jimmy McCallie. Sara was a member of First Christian Church and assisted in the founding of Center School (Pattillo Center School) and Home Away From Home Daycare. She is survived by four children, Dana (Charles Albert) Horton, Elaine (Mark) Simpson, Mary (William) West, and Will DuMond, five grandchildren, Heath Horton, Jessica (Trevon) Johnson, Marcie (Josh) Tuggle, Warren Horton, Jeff (Jodi) Simpson and two grandchildren of the heart, Aaron Armstrong and D.W. Maguffey. Sara was also blessed with eight great grandchildren, Landon, Slayton, and Kason Simpson, Reese Tuggle, and Riley Watkins, Austin Kimbrell and Andrew Howard, and Barrett Johnson. Surviving Sara are one brother, Sam (Nikki) McCallie, two sisters, Blondie Cox, and Susan Overton, two sisters-in-law, Wanda Hamby and Dorothy Smith, and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at 3:30 p.m. at First Christian Church. Burial will be in DeWitt Cemetery by Essex Funeral Home.
