Alfred Linson Edwards, 88, of Sherwood passed away September 29, 2019 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease. He was born on August 14, 1931 to the late Alfred O. and Mariah Linson Edwards of Trumann, Arkansas. After graduating from the University of Arkansas on a ROTC scholarship in 1953, he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force. On his first assignment in Salina, Kansas he met Dorothy Schneider, a young nursing student. They married on April 7, 1956. Together they traveled through his career as a Strategic Air Command Missile Officer. Along the way, they raised four children, Mark, Ann, Larry, and Scott. They returned to Arkansas in 1972 before retiring from active duty in 1979. Al spent his life serving others. After retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel with 25 years in the Air Force, he achieved advanced degrees in Adult Education. He became an advocate for Adult Education Services as GED examiner. He was an active member of Immaculate Conception Church and the IC Men's Club. He often volunteered to help with Sunday collections. He enjoyed the social events, such as bingo, church dances, and fall carnivals. Al loved being with people and having fun. When he wasn't giving time to the church, he could be found in his wood shop working on projects he would give to friends and family. He became a skilled woodworker over the years. Al is preceded in death by his parents and his youngest son, Terrance. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dottie; four children, Mark Edwards (Phyllis), Ann Shaw (Arnol), Larry Edwards (Regina), and Scott Edwards (Cathy); four grandchildren, Kate, Jennifer, Adam and Ashley; five great-grandchildren, Liam, Xander, Jonny, Laken, and Blair, and many friends. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday October 2, 2019 at Smith – North Little Rock Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Church in North Little Rock. Interment will follow at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in Sherwood.
