George Douglas Green, Jr., age 76, of Malvern, died Wednesday, September 11, 2019, in Little Rock. He was born on July 6, 1943, in Sparkman, Ark., to the late George D. Green, Sr. and Carrie Porter Green. Reared and receiving his early education in Sparkman, he graduated from Ouachita Baptist University with a degree in chemistry. While a student at OBU, he was a member of ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps). George worked for the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department in the Materials and Test Division, and retired as chief chemist for the State of Arkansas. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Malvern, where he served as a deacon for many years. George also taught Sunday school for 43 years, positively influencing the lives of many children. George also served his community by delivering Meals on Wheels. He is survived by his wife, Jennie Kay Hamilton Green, to whom he was married on August 14, 1970, in the First Baptist Church; his son, Michael Green of Benton; his granddaughters, Ashley Nicole Green and Gabbie Cate Green; his brother, Dr. William Robert Green, and his wife, Carolyn of Jonesboro, Ark.; two nephews, Robert Green and Dr. Edward Green, and his wife, Emily; and by a great-niece and great–nephew, Douglas and Emery Green; and numerous cousins. George was also preceded in death by an infant brother. A celebration of George's life will be on Monday, September 16, 2019, at two o'clock, in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church, with Brother Billy Bartlett and Dr. Verne Wickliffe officiating. Interment will follow in Shadowlawn Cemetery under the direction of J. A. Funk Funeral Home. A visitation will precede the service, beginning at twelve-thirty. Pallbearers will be: Robert Green, Edward Green, James Stinnett, John Dyer, David Hughes, and Sherman Robinson. Honorary pallbearers will be: the Deacons of First Baptist Church and members of the McDonalds Coffee Group. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 531 South Main Street, Malvern, Ark. 72104.
