Lewis "Eugene" DeCocq

Lewis "Eugene" DeCocq, 92, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Friday, September 27, 2019 at Oak Pointe Assisted Living in Carthage, Miss. He was born December 19, 1926, in Monett, Miss., to Seraphin and Violet Boyles-DeCocq. After graduating from Vesailles High School on May 30, 1945, he was inducted into the armed forces on June 3rd, 1045. He was in training for the invasion of Japan when the H-Bomb ended that war. He was stationed with the occupation forces in Germany with the 1st Infantry division, a medical detachment, with the rank of Tech Sergeant. He was one of a few left from the high school graduating class of 1945. He was a member of the FFA, and he successfully exhibited livestock in the American Royal. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from MSSC. He was a Safeway store employee and manger for thirty years, and he retired from a 35-year career in insurance. He was a member of Village Baptist Church and a former member of Bella Vista Baptist Church. In May 1947, he married Mary Pauline Murphy. Four children were born to that marriage. She preceded him in death. He married Carolyn Maguire on November 27, 1982. She also preceded him in death. A dear best friend, Fances Kistler of Kansas City survives him. Surviving family include one sister, Dorothy; four children, Ben Abrams, James (Kathie) DeCocq, Dale (Linda) DeCocq and Paula DeCocq; seven grandchildren, Becky Avahram, Brandon (Kristen) DeCocq, Travis (Misty) DeCocq, Shannon (Will) Schaad, Kimberly Benton, Lindsay (Andrew) Kletke, Julie (John) Marquis, Brian (Rebecca) DeCocq and 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by special friends Jorg and Melanie Schwede in Germany and Maurisimo Matthiesen of Orlando, Fla. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2019, at 9:30 a. m. with funeral service to follow at 10:30 a.m. in the Village Baptist Church, 380 Glasgow Rd, Bella Vista, Ark., 72715. Burial will follow at 2 p.m., in the Fayetteville VA National Cemetery, 700 Government Avenue, Fayetteville, Ark., 72701. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Village Baptist Church.
