Colleen McNew Owen

Colleen McNew Owen, age 91, of Russellville, died Tuesday, August 4, 2020, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born April 8, 1929, in Centerville, Faulkner County, Ark., to Elbert Lindsey and Ethel Blair McNew. Colleen was very witty, enjoyed playing bridge, sewing, was an avid reader and good cook. She and L D both were very proud of their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed a career with the U.S. Cooperative Extension Service. Her career began in Mississippi County and continued in Yell, Pulaski and Saline Counties. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, L D Owen; a brother, Fred McNew; and three sisters, Bessie Henderson, Gladys Carden, and Hettie Marie Harris. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Lindsey and Jackie Owen, and Phillip and Ellen Owen, all of Carrollton, Texas; one daughter, Elizabeth Owen of Russellville; five grandchildren, Brent (Allison) Owen, Katie Owen (Colin Wooldridge), Landon Owen, Greg Owen, and Parker (Genette) Owen; and two great-grandchildren, Henry Owen and Audrey Owen. A private graveside service for the family, will be held in Rest Haven Memorial Park with the Rev. Dr. Tony Griffin officiating and under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.
