Calvin Dean Wallace, "Doc", age 93, was the fourth son of Alfonso Marion Wallace and Ara Leone Turley Wallace. He was born on June 21, 1926 on the family farm near Bald Knob and died on June 16, 2020 surrounded by his children at home. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the Philippines and occupation of Japan with the Medical Battalion of the 24th Army division from 1945-1946. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Helen Rudean Coyle Wallace. He is survived by one son, Larry (Chris) Wallace, three daughters, Theresa (Tony) Thompson, Rachel (Pat) Stegall, and Lisa (Lance) Owens, 9 grand-children and 13 great-grandchildren. He was the last living sibling having been preceded in death by his four brothers, Vesta, A.M., James and John and his sister, Ava Wallace Gardner. Calvin worked various labor and construction jobs throughout his lifetime. He primarily worked for Sheehan Pipeline Construction Company until his retirement at age 72. He never had trouble finding a job because of his reputation as a hard worker and his attention to detail. Like other members of The Greatest Generation, he took joy and pride in working hard to provide for his family. Calvin was very active in his community. He was a 32nd degree Mason active for over 50 years in his local lodge where he served in many capacities including officer positions. As a member of the local chapter of the AARP, he served in various roles including President. Calvin was an active member of the Judsonia Church of Christ. He taught Bible classes for many years and served as a Deacon and an Elder. He loved the Lord and thoroughly enjoyed helping in every aspect of church service. A lover of life and all God's creation, he enjoyed the smell of freshly turned dirt, the sun on his face, the vegetables ripening on the vine, the birds and other animal life. He leaves this legacy of the simple joys of life in the hearts and minds of his children and grandchildren. His real joy came in spending time with his family. The family would like to thank the VA Home Based Healthcare Team, especially Deborah Turner, Brad Worley, and Lisa Jaggers; Arkansas Hospice; and Teresa Whitlow, a special caregiver, who made sure he "shined like a new penny" every morning for more than two years. Visitation will be 5:30-6:30 p.m. Friday, June 19, at Judsonia Church of Christ. Services will begin immediately at 6:30 p.m. Interment will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery Steward Addition with military honors. Arrangements entrusted to Powell Funeral Home, Bald Knob-Judsonia.
