Leonard Lane Dunn

Leonard Lane Dunn was born May 24, 1935 in Taney County, Mo., to Harrison and Ethel Braden Dunn and passed from this life on June 18, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Clara, and four brothers and four sisters. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. He served in the military as Aviation Section Chief for the 936th and later the 142nd Field Artillery Units. For 30 years he was a gauge reader for the Water Resources Division of the Interior Department Geological Survey and learned the upper White River and its tributaries well. Leonard retired from the University of Arkansas where he operated the Biotechnology Research Lab, producing the Monoclonal Antibodies used by food science researchers to detect food pathogens. He was a long-time member of the N.R.A. and was twice named Citizen of the Year by the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. Leonard was an accomplished storyteller and wrote a newspaper column he called "Leonard Dunn's White River Meanderings," that was published in several Northwest Arkansas newspapers and magazines for several years. Some of the articles reflected his extensive knowledge of wildlife. He also had a special compassion toward hurt or abandoned dogs. Leonard was a member of the Church of Christ and supported Gospel Tracts International as well as several students and preachers in West Africa. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Moore's Chapel and a memorial service may be announced later. Memorials may be made to (1) Gospel Tracts International, 2125 N.
