Pamela Jo Mills was born on July 28, 1947 in Fayetteville, Arkansas, to Afton Edward Spurlock and Velma Sims Spurlock. She passed peacefully from this world on May 10, 2020, with her husband and three children by her side. Pam spent her early years in Fullerton, California, where most of her extended family still reside. When she was 16 years old, her family moved back to Fayetteville, although Pam always considered herself a California girl. She attended Fayetteville Public Schools, graduating from Fayetteville High School in 1965. While at FHS, she met the man who would become her husband of over 50 years. After high school, Pam attended school at the University of Arkansas, before marrying Jack on June 6, 1969. Together, they raised their three children, Missy, Matt, and Meredith, in Fayetteville. Those years were filled with soccer, softball, shenanigans with the neighbors and cousins, homemade costumes and birthday parties, beach trips, road trips, and enough coke cakes to fill a room. Years later, with a continued desire to finish her education, Pam re-enrolled at the University of Arkansas where she obtained both a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Mathematics. After completing her education, Pam embarked on a career as an educator where she taught math to a generation of students at both Woodland Junior High School and Fayetteville High School. After more than a decade in the Fayetteville Public Schools, Pam finished the final 10 years of her career as a mathematics instructor at the University of Arkansas. She was beloved by her students, many of whom still name her as their favorite teacher of all time. Pam's greatest treasure though, was her family. Pam and Jack were married for 50 years and 11 months, and they filled those years with love, laughter, and shared adventures, along with the occasional impromptu home renovation project. She treasured time with her husband, children, and seven grandchildren. She delighted in the antics of the grandkids, who could do no wrong in her eyes (even if their parents had not enjoyed that same leniency). Pam was a lifelong follower of Jesus and lived her faith every day. She devoted countless hours to her church family at Mount Comfort Church of Christ, helping to ensure kids in our community were fed and clothed. She was a passionate volunteer for the Peace at Home Family Shelter and worked tirelessly in her service there. Pam was known for her wisdom, wit, and sharp sense of humor, but mostly for the kindness and love that she showed to those around her. She touched many lives through her teaching career and service to her church and community. She was so good in so many ways, but she was the absolute best at loving her family. Pam is preceded in death by her father, Afton Edward Spurlock, and mother, Velma Sims Spurlock. She is survived by her husband, Jack Mills of Fayetteville; three children, Missy DeLoach and her husband Jeff of Bella Vista, Matt Mills of Fayetteville, and Meredith Bramlett and her husband Jason of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren, Sydney DeLoach, Riley DeLoach, Connor Mills, Claire Bramlett, Max DeLoach, Arden Bramlett, and Amelia Bramlett; two sisters, Deanna Spurlock of Carlisle, Pennsylvania and Darla Wright of McKinney, Texas. A private graveside service will be held at Fairview Memorial Gardens, under the direction of Moore's Chapel. Memorials can be made in Pam's honor to Banford House, c/o Mt. Comfort Church of Christ, 3249 West Mt. Comfort Rd., Fayetteville, Ark. 72704. Pam will be loved and missed but her family rejoices with the knowledge that she has received her reward to be with Jesus. To sign the online guest book, visit www.mooresfuneralchapel.com.
