Charles Leo Kelley

Charles Leo Kelley, entered his eternal home October 24, 2020, at the age of 87, years. At the time of his death, he was residing at Apple Creek Health and Rehab, in Centerton, Ark. Charles was born October 13, 1933, in Beaty, Ark., to Elmer and Jennie (Edens) Kelley, who preceded him in death. He served in the U.S. Army and was extremely proud to be a veteran. Much of Charles' life focused on his passions for teaching and counseling. He received bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. He began vocationally as the business teacher at Gravette High School, where he later became the counselor. In 1988, his career in public education continued at Northwest Technical Institute in Springdale, where he served as the president until his retirement in 2006. Throughout the years of teaching he pursued other career opportunities as well, working as an accountant, real estate agent, postal carrier, and he was the city recorder for Gravette. Charles always enjoyed working with people and volunteer service in both community organizations and his church. He was a member of the Lions Club International, Rotary International, Junior Chamber, Fraternal Order of the Masons, and Shiloh Museum of Ozark History. But most importantly he was a member of Cross Church, in Springdale, where he served as greeter, usher, and small group leader. He loved his Savior, and he loved his church family. Later in life, he was most proud when being able to welcome each family as the entered the church. He was preceded in death by stepson Mark Goble. Charles is survived by his wife, Martha (Shelton) Kelley, of Fayetteville; daughter, Pamela Marney and Allen of Gravette; daughter, Patricia Bertschy and Craig of Hiwasse; son, Michael Kelley of Gravette; stepdaughter, Jan Bower of Fayetteville; stepdaughter, Suzanne Tusing and Randy of Tontitown; sister, Louise Evans and Dodie of Gravette; and niece, Kelly Nelson and Jeff of Owasso, Okla. In addition, he leaves behind a legacy of six grandchildren, and spouses; 13 great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and his friends and caretakers at Apple Creek Health and Rehab. A graveside service will be held Friday, October 30th, at 3 p.m., at Lee Cemetery, on Beaty Road West of Gravette, with Samuel Marney officiating.
