Ernest Otto Hopmann

Ernest Otto Hopmann Jr. was born on February 27, 1932, in Brenham, Texas, to Ernest O. Hopmann Sr. and Laura Schultze Hopmann. The family then moved to Houston that same year. Ernest graduated from John Reagan High School in Houston, Texas, in May 1950, and married Rosemary Robertson on February 23, 1951. Soon thereafter, he joined the U.S. Coast Guard and was at sea aboard the USCGC "LOWE" with duty in both the North and South Pacific traveling as far away as Japan. After his four years of military service, he attended the University of Houston while working in the oil fields of Texas. In 1958, he was raised as a 32nd degree Master Mason in the Woodland Masonic Lodge #1157 of Texas where he recently obtained his 60-year membership pin. In 1959, Ernest and Rosemary moved to Dumas, Ark., where he began a life of farming. In 1960 he obtained his Private Pilot's license. Ernest was preceded in death by his loving wife of almost 69 years, Rosemary, in February of this year; his parents, Ernest and Laura; and one sister, Laura Mae Standifer. Survivors are his son, Ernest "Bo" Hopmann III and his wife, Lisa of Houston, Texas; one daughter, Dawne Hill and her husband, James "Tuffy" of Dumas; five grandchildren: Daniel Hill and wife Katie, Wade Hill and wife Whitney, Kristen Siegerist and husband Clayton, Elizabeth Hopmann and Anita Hopmann; six great grandchildren: Parker Hill, Eli Hill, Woods Hill, Poppy Hill, Rosemary Siegerist and Estelle Siegerist. Family and friends will gather and celebrate this man's wonderful life during a visitation beginning at 1:30 p.m., on Tuesday, October 27, 2020, at Walnut Lake Cemetery, Pickens, Ark., with a graveside service led by Dr. Tandy Hanson to follow at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Ernest to the First United Methodist Church, 230 Court St, Dumas, Ark., 71639.
