Ladie M. Shelton, 95, of Little Rock, Ark., transitioned peacefully into eternity Friday, April 9, 2021. She had been a lifelong member of now Canaan MBC. She was educated in Little Rock public schools and was a graduate of both Dunbar High School and Junior College and had attended Philander Smith College. Well-known for her sense of style and fashion, she was most often bedecked in a shade of blue, her favorite color. Ladie had a passion for elephants, and she literally had hundreds in every form imaginable. In 1947, she married Overdia Shelton, who preceded her in death. Also awaiting her in eternity were six of their children, infants Kenneth and Jacquelyn; Overdia Jr. "Butch" (Marzell); twins, Erma Jean Shelton-Colding and Eugene (Deborah "Dee"); and Isaac "Ike". Her greatest joys in life were serving the Lord and being a mother and grandmother. She found her greatest contentment in preparing large meals for her large family, extended family, and friends. She was widely known for her culinary skills, especially her homemade rolls, tea cakes, and pancakes. Her philosophy: "Give people their flowers while they live." Ladie leaves a legacy of love with her devoted children, Lois Walker (Charles), George Shelton, Patricia Smith (Freddie), and Howard Shelton; sister, Ida Simmons-Davis; her two daughters-in-love; surrogate daughter, Linda Brown; sister-in-law, Opaline Shelton; and a host of grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Perpetual care entrusted to Walton GateWay Funeral Chapel, "Where Caring and Quality Come First", 2405 South Gaines Street. Private family funeral and burial services will be held Tuesday, April 20.
