Robert E. Boyd of Sheridan, Ark., ended his journey of life on April 12, 2021. He will start a new journey in Heaven with the Lord. Robert was born in Pine Bluff, Ark., on September 10, 1943. He was 77 years old. His parents were the late Howard and Leta McDougald Boyd. He attended school at Watson Chapel from the first grade through the twelfth grade and graduated from Watson Chapel. Not knowing for sure what he wanted to do after graduation, he joined the U. S. Marine Corps, where he served his country for four years, After finishing his duty in the service he went to work for International Paper Mill. He retired from the paper mill after working there for 40 years. Mr. Boyd loved to talk about the Lord, his family, his service in the military, politics and the paper mill. He was a dedicated servant for the Lord. He was very honored to serve Calvary Missionary Baptist Church as a deacon. He loved his family and was so proud of them. He was a great husband, soulmate, dad, and poppa. He kept up with what was going on in the news. He and Sonny Kelly would sit in the garage and solve the world's problems. Robert loved his country and always said, he would gladly serve again. He previously served as a chaplain for The American Legion Post 30 and also for District Nine. His great-niece Ella always invited him to the school functions pertaining to the Veterans. Also Pippi and Felix, his grandchildren, always told about their Poppa at their school in Springdale. He was so proud that Ella, Pippi, and Felix wanted to share a part of his life with others. He kept in touch and had coffee with some of his co-workers. He was preceded in death by his parents and an older brother, Bill Boyd. He is survived by his wife, Geraldine (Gerry) who shared with him 52 years of marriage; three sons, Kelley Erstine (Leslie) of Conway, Kris Erstine (Lori of Woodlawn, Kevin Boyd (Sarah) of Springdale; one daughter, Kerri Erstine Bone (Tony) of Sheridan; 12 grandchildren, Ashleigh Nash, Madison Erstine, John Erstine, Blake Erstine, Kolby Shepherd, Jenna Smith, Jamison Lewis, Hannah Elrod, Roxee Boyd, Rowyn Boyd, Pippin Suel, and Fuel Suel; and five great-grandchildren, who were all loved dearly by him. His siblings, Annette Rawls (Joe), Mike Boyd (Martha), Pat Boyd, Jan Lea (Jack) and Stanley Boyd. Serving as pallbearers are his grandsons, son, and son-in-law, and nephews. Serving as honorary pallbearers are friends and deacons of Calvary Church. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday April 17, 2021, at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Terry Williams and Bro. Aaron Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday night from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
