Billy Dean Hendrix

BILLY D. HENDRIX, of Little Rock, Ark. departed this life on December 26, 2020. He was born May 27, 1946 in Ingalls, Ark. (Bradley County). He is preceded in death by his parents Mr. Nathaniel Hendrix and Mrs. Olive Partman-Hendrix of Little Rock, Ark., and sister, Diantha Hendrix-Thompson, of North Little Rock, Ark. Mr. Billy D. Hendrix is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sara Mason-Hendrix, and leaves to cherish and honor his memory also are two beloved children, daughter, Kelicia N. Hendrix of Nashville, Tenn., and son, Kevin N. Hendrix of Bryant, Ark. Siblings - brother, Kenneth Hendrix (Beverly), and two sisters, Margaret Hendrix-Dillard (in memory- Lowell T. Dillard Sr.), and Karen Hendrix-White (Richard). Mother-in-law, Dovie L. Shack, aunt, Mattie Partman, Marsden, Ark., and uncle, Colonvia Partmon, Lawrenceville, Ga., and a host of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Billy accepted Christ at an early age at the Mount Zion Baptist Church in Little Rock, Ark. He was a Fifty Year plus Golden Member, he served as Church Van Driver, Deacon and member of the Senior Usher Board. After graduating from Horace Mann High School in 1965, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and was honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1971. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Arkansas Baptist College, and a Master of Science degree in Education from Ouachita Baptist University. He was an instructor at Fullerton Adolescent Center at the Arkansas State Hospital. He also served as the first black Postmaster in McGhee, Arkansas. After 30 years of dedicated service to the United States Postal Service, Billy D. Hendrix retired as the Postmaster at Warren, Arkansas in 2008. His family will gather to honor and remember a husband, father, a soldier, and an educator in a private ceremony. The general public is invited to a scheduled walk-through viewing on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, from 1-4 p.m. at Ruffin & Jarrett Funeral Home. Masks are required and social spacing is observed. There will be a military honors interment and committal service Thursday, January 7, 2021 at 1 p.m. at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery at 1501 West Maryland Avenue, North Little Rock, Ark. 72120.
