Randy M. Sorrells

Randy M. Sorrells, age 71, of Lodi, passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2021. He was born on March 7, 1950, in Hot Springs, the son of the late Dayton M. Sorrells and Anna Lee Francis Sorrells. On June 15, 1973, he married Sandra Tilley Sorrells. He was a 1968 graduate of Amity High School and a 1972 graduate of Henderson State University earning his Bachelor of Science in Education. He taught social studies and coached at Holly Grove, Poyen, Caddo Hills, and Kirby Schools for thirty years and retired in 2002. He coached boys and girls over the course of his career while starting several cross country and track programs. Randy valued the relationships with all his students and athletes by showing each of them love and encouragement. In 1979, he began working as a temporary park ranger on Lake Greeson for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and later accepted a full-time position after retiring from education in 2002. Randy was a member of Amity First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He adored his family and loved being Poppa to Greer and Way. Randy enjoyed life and the people he met along the way. He was positive, joyful, kind, and shared that with those he knew and loved. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Sorrells; his daughter, Paige (Jody) Cowart; his grandchildren, Greer Cowart and Way Cowart, all of Lodi; his brother, Ritchie (Lynne) Sorrells of San Antonio; his sister, Sheena (Randall) Coffman of Hopper; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, October 10, in the Amity First Baptist Church with Bros. Carl Newman, John McAnally and Johnny Baker officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday, 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home. Interment will be in Lodi Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be Gary Lammers, Devin Flemens, Dan Funderburk, Deric Putz, Marty Reynolds, Ken Forga, Brian Mount and Ronnie Whisenhunt. Honorary pallbearers will be his co-workers at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers of Lake Greeson.
