Melvin Cooley, age 89, of Bald Knob, passed way at his home on the morning of October 20, 2021. He was born January 24, 1932, in Bald Knob, Arkansas. He is preceded in death by his mother, Marguerite Moody Cooley Burchfield; baby sister, Glenda Louise Cooley; and two grandsons, Jordan Michael Worley and Nathan Kyle Worley. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Glendolyn Durham Cooley; a brother, Donald Cooley (Sue) of Bald Knob, Ark.; sisters, Linnie Faye Pierce of Bartlett, Tenn., and Brenda Williams (Rufus) of Bald Knob, Ark.; three daughters, Glenda Worley (Michael) of Russellville, Karon Henderson (Pat) of England, Ark. And Alesia King (Darrel) of Bald Knob, Ark. Grandchildren include Dr. Kara Worley-Jones (Mike) of Hamburg, Ark., Aimee Nichol (Sean) of Little Rock, Ark., Jamey Miller (Tina) of Judsonia, Ark., and Timothy Dollar of Dover, Ark.; as well as numerous great-grandchildren. Mr. Cooley worked as a local supervisor for Bald Knob Telephone Exchange and then Contel Telephone for a total of 37 years. He continued employment for five more years as a pipeline construction worker. Melvin served the community of Bald Knob as a volunteer firefighter for more than 20 years. He was a lifelong member of the Central Baptist Church where he served as deacon/Bible teacher for 59 years. After retirement he enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting and time well spent with his grandchildren and great-grands. One of his special joys was having coffee with his buds every morning at the Market Cafe. Special thanks to caregivers Katelyn Perez, Misty Nichols and DeAnn Harrell. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at the Central Baptist Church in Bald Knob. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in the Shady Grove Cemetery.
