Robert Alan Davis, Jr., 67 of Hamburg, passed away on Friday, September 17, 2021, after a courageous health battle, surrounded by his loved ones who will strive to carry on his legacy. Alan was a lifelong resident of Hamburg; a 1972 graduate of Hamburg High School, where he served as Senior Class President and went on to play football for the University of Arkansas at Monticello. Alan was a life-long member of the Hamburg First United Methodist Church, a farmer, having received the honor of being chosen as a former Ashley County Farm Family of the Year and a former president of Ashley County Farm Bureau. Alan was a simple man. He enjoyed being outdoors, tending his garden, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren. You would often find their "Buddy" in his chair watching gunsmoke with his white "Reebobs" propped up. Alan had a way of being secretly generous to those in need, never looking for acclamations but simply sharing what he had been given. Alan's love for his family, determination, and excitement for all things outdoors will be remembered long after his passing. He is preceded in death by his father, Bobby Davis in 2012, his brother, Wayne Davis in 2007, and his grandparents, Mutt and Nell Courson Davis and Harry and Clara Mae Foote Pryor. Alan is survived by his soul-mate of 45 years, Kaye Barnes Davis of Hamburg; his three children, Anna Greenhaw of Hamburg, Mary Crismon and husband, Rev. Ben Crismon, of Little Rock, and Philip Davis and wife, Sara Davis, of Monticello; his sister, Sharon Hargis and husband, Jimmy Hargis; his mother, Nancy Pryor Davis all of Hamburg; five grandchildren who he adored, Hudson, Sallee, Shepherd, Calder, and Mary Clarke and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Funeral services are 10 a.m., Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at the Hamburg First United Methodist Church with Dr. Bobby Pennington and Rev. Ben Crismon officiating. Burial will be in the Hamburg Cemetery. Pallbearers are River Davis, Jay Porter, Britt Barnes, Gene Barnes, Jim Barnes, Rob Barnes, Matthew Hargis and Barry Davis. Honorary pallbearers are Bill Givens, Stanton Veazey, Jon Bierbaum, Alan Riels, Joe Foote, Mike Riley, Don Davis, Phil Barnes, Bob Barnes, Jimmy Hargis, Jimmy Porter, Jim Atkins and Steve Hartshorn. Memorials may be made to the Hamburg First United Methodist Church, 202 S. Main Street, Hamburg, Ark., 71646. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home of Hamburg, Ark. Online guestbook, www.jones-hartshorn.com. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.
