Robert Wendell Newell Jr.

Robert Wendell Newell, Jr., 73, passed away at his home in Wapiti, Wyoming, Monday, April 11. He died of a sudden and massive heart attack. Bob was born in Eldorado, Arkansas, son of Virginia and Bob Newell. He resided in El Dorado and was CEO of Wheeling Pipeline at the age of twenty-two until the company was sold to Miller Transport. He attended the University of Arkansas and was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. As a resident of El Dorado, he served as a board member of the First National Bank and the former Warner Brown Hospital. His likely inherited intrigue of the West prompted his move to Wyoming where he resided until his death. He had always been an avid outdoorsman and in his later years became an absolute steward of wildlife which gathered in abundance around his home. This was evident in his phenomenal photographs of wildlife. His mother, Virginia Curry Newell, and father, Robert Wendell Newell preceded him in death. Bob is survived by his son, Robert Wendell Newell, III and daughter, Amy Elizabeth Newell. He is also survived by his three sisters, Jan Newell Kinzler and Steve, Nancy Newell, Patti Newell Norsworthy and Pat, and a host of nieces and nephews. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date in El Dorado, Arkansas, for the celebration of his life.
