Jama Sue Fowler

Mrs. Jama Fowler, of Jonesboro, died Wednesday morning, at NEA Baptist Hospital of Jonesboro, surrounded by her loving family. The daughter of Curtis and Celie Smith Massey, Jama was born in Amity, Ark., on May 25, 1936. She attended Amity Schools and business school in Little Rock, and she was the recipient of a Doctor of Art and Humane Letter from the University of Arkansas. Jama and her husband, Wallace, were owners of Fowler Foods Inc. of Jonesboro for many years. Additionally, Jama was a board member of several Arkansas banks. Jama was recognized by many organizations for her numerous contributions, both locally and nationally. She had served as a volunteer at the Phil and Flo Jones Hospice House, the Altrusa Club, the Jonesboro Church Health Center, of which she was a founding member, and the Salvation Army, all in Jonesboro. She had also served on the Board of Directors of John T. Gray School in Jonesboro and had been an active volunteer with United Cerebral Palsy of Northeast Arkansas for many years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Jonesboro. Her hobbies included reading and traveling and spending time with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Wallace W. Fowler of the home, and three sons, Wallace (Wally) Fowler Jr. (Chris Cooper) of Heber Springs; Chris Eugene Fowler (Kim) of Key West, Fla.; and Mark Preston Fowler (Lisa) of Paragould; her grandchildren, Crystal Crawford (Matt); Aaron Fowler; Kaleb Hendrix; Megan Roberts (Gabe); and Matthew Fowler, all of Jonesboro; CJ Fowler Jr. of Cambridge, Mass.; Alexandra (Lexi) Rose Fowler of Oklahoma City, Okla.; Kody Whitney (Kelsey) of Paragould; and Tera Helding (Wes) of Lees Summit, Mo.; and her great-grandchildren, Caroline and Clara Crawford; Fowler, Elsie and Hampton Roberts, all of Jonesboro; Kolt and Kam Whitney of Paragould; and Eleanor and Owen Helding of Lees Summit, Mo. Visitation will be held Sunday, April 24, 2022, from 2 to 5 p.m., at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 25, 2022, at 10 a.m., at the funeral home. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. The family requests that lasting memorials be made to: NEA Baptist Foundation; University of Arkansas Razorback Foundation; Arkansas Children's Hospital Foundation.
