Mildred Powell Chandler

MILDRED POWELL CHANDLER, 86, passed away on February 6, 2022, after an eight-year battle with multiple myeloma. She was born in Griffithville, Ark., to Rilla and Solon Powell. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Paul Powell, Jack Powell, CK Powell, and Don Powell; and sisters, Geraldine Powell, Juanita Smith, Mamie Ruth Neaville, and Flora Ann Ray. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dr. Billy M. Chandler; her children, Cheryl (Russell) Rainey of Durango, Colo., Mitchell Chandler (Luba) of Little Rock, Elizabeth (Joey) Mercer of Rison, Ark., and Matt (Angie) Chandler of Lakewood Ranch, Fla. She is also survived by grandchildren, Brittany (Kelly) Thornton of Durango, Colo., Joshua (Katharina) Rainey of Schruns, Austria, Anna Sharabura of Little Rock, Ark., Chloe Chandler of Little Rock, Ark., Chase Carter (Betsy) of Cave Springs, Ark., Seth Carter of Little Rock, Ark., their mother Janet Chandler of Bella Vista, Ark., Jody Mercer of Conway, Ark., Chandler Mercer of Conway, Ark., Will Chandler of Bentonville, Ark., and Abby Chandler of Delray Beach, Fla.; and great-grandchildren, Cole and Turner Thornton of Durango, Colo., Evelyn, Louisa, and Henry Rainey of Schruns, Austria, and Max and Macy Carter of Cave Springs, Ark. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. The eighth of nine children, she endured and enjoyed life in ways beyond the imagination of a small child in the small town of Griffithville, White County, Ark., in 1935. She traveled the world with her husband and loved to do things others might consider exotic. Dad's best friend was Harold Trimble, and all together, they traveled the world many times over. She loved her condo in Destin and watched the sun set a thousand times. She spent her life in constant giving to family and friends. She was a consummate southern lady and blessed everyone with her wonderful cooking and hospitality skills. On top of caring for her children, she also ran her husband's ophthalmology practice, North Little Rock Eye Clinic, for over 35 years. We would like to acknowledge the service of the many employees over the years, particularly Curtis Granger. The family would like to thank A Place at Home, specifically, Sabrina Gray, for her loving care for the last two years, as well as the Myeloma Center at the UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute. A private family service was held on Thursday, February 11, 2022.
