Maxine Dykes

Photo of Maxine Dykes
The lights of the world dimmed a little on the morning of the 20th of January 2022, when the spirit of our mother, sister, grandmother, and friend left her physical body and went on to its journey upward. Maxine Dykes was born in 1930, the third child of nine to less than auspicious beginnings, and lived all of her ninety one years with a shy hopefulness, an unflinching loyalty and a fetching modesty. Her patience, efficiency and quiet nature made her friend and confidante to all that she met, she quite literally defined kindness and motherly attentiveness. Generosity shadowed her aloofness; her commitment to her faith and her sense of duty precluded any self interest and a smile from her was a disarming beam of tenderness. All of us left in the world get to savor her gifts, her oil paintings hang in our entryways, her gardening skills enhance our family folklore, her dishes and handwritten recipes foretell our future gatherings. We will all miss her dearly. Funeral services for Maxine Dykes will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 24, 2022, at Roller McNutt Funeral Home in Conway, Ark., with burial to follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park.
