Melba Jean Burleson, 70, passed away on January 29, 2022, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Melba is survived by her husband, Dr. James Burleson, of 48 years; and sons, Michael Burleson and Dr. Brad Burleson. She was the proud "grandma" of five grandchildren. She leaves behind a host of loved ones including her father, Melvin Schafer, her sisters, brother, daughters-in-law, and cousins. Melba served as the office manager at Burleson Family Dentistry for over 25 years. She always loved running a business such as the dental office she and James started in Jacksonville and later Cabot, to a children's clothing store, to a food salvage store and more. She was well known for working hard. She was a great story teller and could have everyone laughing. She loved her family fiercely, enjoyed a good adventure, was incredibly generous, and made the best German chocolate cake you've ever tasted. She loved water skiing, snow skiing, and always kept life fun and exciting for the Burleson boys. She had an associate's degree in nursing and was compassionate and always there to lend a hand when someone was sick. She loved her grandchildren and you could often see her playing in the floor or sharing a Happy Meal with them when they were young. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 1, at Hebron Methodist Church in Carlisle at 9 a.m. The funeral will be a graveside service at 10 a.m. immediately following. Donations can be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements by Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke. Online guestbook, www.boydfuneralhome.net
