Carol Ann Houchin, age 66, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2022, in Fayetteville, Ark. She was born November 14, 1955, in Atwater, Calif., to James and Eunice (Rogers) Jared. She is preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Janet Wentzel. Carol was raised in a loving family; her father was a pastor and also in the Air Force, which allowed them to experience living in many places. She later married the love of her life, David Houchin, April 6, 1974, in Springdale. The newlyweds wanted to enjoy life together. They moved to California for a time before relocating back to Arkansas to work in the Houchin family's donut shop. The couple then moved to Newport, Ore., to open a donut shop of their own. After selling their successful business, they relocated to Longmont, Colo., to open two donut shops. During their time in Colorado, they welcomed their son Jeremy Houchin. The family then returned to northwest Arkansas to open another business, Laser Storm, and then she ended her working career at Walmart. David and Carol were blessed to walk out the same door into retirement together. Outside of running successful businesses and caring for her family, Carol was a lover of the outdoors. She enjoyed mountain climbing, hiking, snow skiing, and being active. She even ran the Portland Marathon! She also enjoyed artwork, spending time near the coast, and spending time with her friends. She created her own artwork from the skills she learned from her mother and sisters. Carol supported every passion that David and Jeremy dove into from motocross to baseball. She was known for her sweetness and willingness to listen and care for others. Above all she was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend. Carol is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, David Houchin; son, Jeremy Houchin and his wife Chandler; her unborn grandson; her siblings, Audrey Jared, Perry Jared, and Doris Jared; her aunt, Sandy Rogers; and a host of extended family and friends. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 15, 2022, at 10 a.m. at Nelson- Berna Funeral Home of Rogers. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted under the direction of Nelson-Berna Funeral Home of Rogers.
