Fletcher Vance Lassiter

Fletcher Vance Lassiter, 77, of Portland, died Sunday, July 17, 2022, in Greenville, Miss. Fletcher was born on September 18, 1944, to W.A. "Dink" and Maymie Ferguson Lassiter in Lonoke. He graduated from Lonoke High School in 1962 and attended Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway. He served in the Air National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1967. Fletcher was a member of the Portland United Methodist Church, a 50-year Mason, and a member of Gideons International. He loved God, went on several mission trips, and served his community with a helping hand no matter the project. He was one of the first EMTs from Portland and helped start the ambulance service for that area. He also participated in the American Agricultural Movement, a historic moment in history where farmers drove tractors to Washington to strike against low farm prices. He worked hard as a farmer for many years and then as a mechanic on the pipeline. When he wasn't working, he was hunting or tinkering around with airplanes. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years, Doris Harris Lassiter, in 2019; and his parents. He is survived by his two sons, William Fletcher Lassiter and wife, Carla, and Robert "Robby" Fletcher Lassiter and wife, Sherry; a brother, Bill Lassiter and wife, Charlotte, all of Portland; nine grandchildren, Kyle Lassiter, Jake Lassiter and wife, Brooke, Robert Lassiter, Zachary Lassiter, Laura Hensley, Roger Hensley, Sydney Williams, Brennan Williams, and Cailin Shivers; five great-grandchildren, Landry Ann Newell, Aiden Williams, Declan Williams, Brennan Rose Williams, and Sawyer Mae Shivers; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at the Portland United Methodist Church with Dr. Walter Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Portland Cemetery. Pallbearers are Bill Lassiter, Kyle Lassiter, Jake Lassiter, Robert Lassiter, Zachary Lassiter and Roger Hensley.
