Charles Elmer Day, was born on March 17, 1925, and died on July 24, 2022. As a St. Patrick's Day baby, he was the only child of the late Meda Loveless and Clarence Elmer Day. He married Mildred Ball on June 17, 1947. They were married for 58 years, until her death in 2004. They were parents of two sons, Tom (Geneva) and Tim (Gene). They had four grandchildren, Blake (Jennifer), Brian, Ben and Brandon (Alicia) and eight great-grandchildren, Braydon, Bryce, Payton, Carson, Ransom, Hampton, Lilly and Cooper. Charles graduated from Conway High School and Hendrix College, with honors. He spent his career working in his parent's "mom and pop" style grocery and feed store, Clarence Day's Store, on Front Street in downtown Conway. After their death, he continued the tradition until 1986. An asset of the store was his "country-cured and hickory smoked hams and bacon" along with smoked cheeses. Prior to joining the family business he served four years in the Air Force as a ground crew radio man stationed on the West Coast. He was a member of Pickles Gap Baptist Church his entire lifetime. He would always jokingly add one year to his age when telling someone the length of years he had been a member. His faith was all important to him and up until his health didn't allow, it was rare for him to miss a Sunday morning, Sunday night or Wednesday night service, along with any others that were offered. He was a member of the Conway Noon Lions Club for 65 years becoming the oldest member and the longest serving as time progressed. He served as president from 1954-1955 and other positions. He received various awards through the years and typically had "perfect attendance". The family is indebted to the staffs of Stone Bridge Conway for the past year and Heritage Living Center for the past month. Their gracious and loving care is greatly appreciated and will always be remembered. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 27, 2022, from 6 until 8 p.m., at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Thursday, July 28, 2022, 10 a.m., at Pickles Gap Baptist Church with burial at Macedonia Cemetery in Conway. The family requests that masks be worn at both occasions.
