Peggie Howard, passed away peacefully at home on June 6, 2022. She was born August 6, 1924, to Myrtle Hicks and John C. Gilbert in Helena, Arkansas. After graduating from Helena High School, she began her war effort working for Western Union Telegraph in Helena. After a transfer to Pine Bluff, she met and married William E. Howard, Jr. They had two children, Martha Mohler (Bruce) of Ocean Springs, Miss., and Thomas M. Howard (Priscilla) of Little Rock. She worked for many years as a secretary in the guidance department in the Pine Bluff school system. She made many friends there who have stayed in touch with phone calls and birthday cards. After Bill Howard passed away in 1994, she and Martha enjoyed traveling abroad to London, Paris, and Rome on many adventures, but Peggie loved London the most! In fact, one Thanksgiving, they stayed in the same small hotel in Hyde Park as a travel group from Little Rock! What a small world we live in. Peggie enjoyed lunch and was a member of the Golden Girls at the Pine Bluff Country Club. Although brought up in the Methodist Church in Helena, she and Bill married in the First Baptist Church in Pine Bluff, and she remained a faithful member of South Side and First Baptist in Pine Bluff her entire adult life. Peggie was the only girl of four children born to Myrtle and John Clark Gilbert. Her brothers, Donald, Tommy, and Paul predeceased her. Peggie was blessed with a long and happy life, free of any major illnesses, and we are thankful that we had her for so long. Please celebrate her life with us. She leaves behind children, Martha and Tommy, three grandsons, Bruce K. Mohler III (Tammy) of Spanish Fort, Ala., William Howard Mohler (Adriana) of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Amir Bakhtiar of Little Rock, two granddaughters, Sherry Bakhtiar of Pine Bluff and Stephani Brown (Brooks) of Little Rock, three great-grandsons, Peyton Mohler, Sebastian Mohler, and Mateo Mohler, and great-granddaughter, Valerie Bakhtiar and two great-grandsons, Alexander and Wesley Brown. A graveside service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, June 11, 2022, at Graceland Cemetery with Brother Kenneth Thornton and Brother Kenneth Jones officiating. Visitation will be Saturday morning, from 9:30-10:30 a.m., at Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Directors. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 6501 S. Hazel Street, Pine Bluff, Ark., 71603.
