Paul David Montgomery, age 81, went to be with Jesus on Monday, June 20, 2022, surrounded by loved ones. He was born October 8, 1940, in Chaffee, Mo. Paul was raised in Chaffee and could be found running through the town chasing squirrels and rabbits. He was a thespian throughout high school and college. His most favorite role was that of Romeo, and he could still recite the potion scene verbatim. He worked at his family's theatres and fell in love with the cinema. An avid John Wayne fan, his love for movies and old Westerns stayed with him all his life. As a child, his family traveled often, and he enjoyed reminiscing of his brother, Morris, and the memories they made both on those and many hunting and fishing excursions trips. "Animal's" list of occupations was extensive. His jobs included a brakeman on the railroad, concession stand worker, ticket taker, hunting guide, police officer, and mobile home sales. He was a member of the Undefeated 1956 "Little 6" Conference Champions where he proudly led the team as one of the best defensive linemen the town had ever seen. He also played for a time at Arkansas State University and Southeast Missouri State. Paul married Gay Anderson Montgomery on September 16, 1972, and the two built a life together in Cabot. He owned and operated Montgomery Mobile Homes for over 30 years. Lovingly referred to as Daddy, Pappa, Uncle, P.D. and "Animal" he was known for his knowledge of the outdoors and hunting, firearms, and primitive archery. Those who knew him heard LOTS of stories most of which were true. His laugh was infectious, and his spirit was stronger than most men half his age. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Bernice Montgomery; a brother, Morris Montgomery; and his wife of 43 years, Gay Montgomery. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Paula Gay and Michael Swindle of Russellville; granddaughter, Aubrey Howerton and husband Gunnar of Russellville; and grandsons, D.A. Reed and Asher Swindle of Russellville. The funeral service will be 2 p.m., Friday, June 24, 2022, at New Life Church in Russellville with the Rev. Mark Pagley officiating. Paul will be laid to rest next to his wife Gay in Rest Haven Memorial Park and under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville. The family will receive friends Friday from 1 p.m. until service time at the church. Pallbearers will be Michael Swindle, D.A. Reed, Asher Swindle, Gunnar Howerton, Freddie Williams and Harlan Glover. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to New Life Church-Children's Ministry, 130 E Harrell Dr, Russellville, Ark. 72802 or to CHS Alumni Scholarship, P.O. Box 172, Chaffee, Mo. 63740.
