Melvin Wade Jones, 87, of Rogers, Ark., passed from this life on Sunday May 1, 2022, due to complications of Parkinson's Disease. He was born September 11, 1934, in Dublin, Texas to Archie and Velma Jones. He married JoAnn Adamson on August 9, 1952. He was a business owner as he bought the Dairy Delight in 1969, which became the Hi-D-Ho near downtown Rogers. In 1989, he was awarded the Small Business Person of the Year honor by the Rogers Chamber of Commerce. Melvin and his wife JoAnn retired from the Hi-D-Ho in 2000. As a long-time fan and supporter of the University of Arkansas, Melvin never missed a chance to call the hogs! In 1994, he and a grandson went to every NCAA Basketball Tournament game in which the Razorbacks played and saw the hogs win the Final 4 Championship game against Duke. He raised cattle as a hobby and sometimes even named his cows. On Sundays he could be found attending the Southside Church of Christ where he worked as a Joy Bus Captain in the 1970s busing children to the church for Bible classes and children's worship. He loved people and loved God. He would greet every person that came through the doors at Southside. He would be the last one seated so that he wouldn't miss greeting anyone. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Dennis Earl Jones and grandson Justin Jones. He is survived by JoAnn, his wife of 69 years; one daughter: Pam Gay (Lynn) of Springdale, Ark.; two sons: Gary Jones (Vicki) of Tulsa, Okla. and Terry Jones (Leslie) of Magnolia, Texas; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister Lila Ramsey of Lubbock, Texas; sister Nelda Arnold of Amarillo, Texas and a host of family and friends. Funeral will be held at the Southside Church of Christ in Rogers on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at 11 a.m. Visitation will be at Benton County Funeral Home, 304 N. 4th, Rogers on Tuesday evening from 5-7 p.m. Memorial donations can be given to Green Valley Bible Camp (www.greenvalleybiblecamp.com).
