Henry Layes

Henry Joseph Layes, age 66, of Fayetteville, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2022, in Fayetteville. He was born July 26, 1955, in Paris, Ark., the only son of Henry and Wilma Kaufman Layes. His childhood was spent on the small family farm in Scranton, Ark., where he learned many useful skills, including woodworking and automobile engine repair. Henry liked animals, especially the rescue dogs he adopted later in life. His greatest joy was spending time with friends, cousins and especially his son. He worked at the University of Arkansas in the Transit and Parking Department for 42 years. He started working in the parking division when he was a UA student and worked his way through multiple positions as he helped many student workers through the years. He seemed to know nearly everyone who worked at the UA and had innumerable friends in multiple departments across campus. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his son, Ryan Layes, of Fayetteville; and many valued cousins. Visitation will be 5 – 7 p.m. Tuesday May 31, 2022 at Moore's Chapel. Rosary service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday June 1, 2022, at Saint Ignatius Catholic Church in Scranton. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. following the Rosary service.
