Doris Marie Shoptaw Reynolds was born October 31, 1927, near Prattsville, Ark., and passed away October 28, 2022, at the age of 94. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Bob" Cole Reynolds; sons, Gary Cole Reynolds and Terry Robert Reynolds; parents, Roy and Elby Shoptaw; sisters, Bernice Heaton and Natha Lee Shoptaw Stucky; and brothers, Lewis Shoptaw and Don Shoptaw. She is survived by her son, Larry Robert Reynolds of Benton; granddaughter, Leslie Reynolds Penix and husband, Ben Penix, of Fayetteville; three great-grandchildren, Madeline, Graham, and Mary Penix of Fayetteville; grandson, Devin (Karlie) Victor Reynolds of Benton; and grandson, Neal Allan Reynolds of Hot Springs Village. Doris enjoyed quilting and sewing. The joy of Doris's life was her family especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved to cook for them. She loved gardening and canning with her husband Robert. Doris had a wonderful sense of humor and was always game for an adventure, and while Bob was the quiet one, Doris was the talker! Their marriage was strong. She always dressed up at Halloween (most of the time as a witch) for the kids and grandkids and enjoyed trick or treating with them. Her birthday was on Halloween, too! Doris worked for several years delivering mail and driving a stick shift car from the passenger (not driver) seat! At under five feet tall, she played basketball in high school and was known for her quickness. Doris loved shopping for holiday and birthday presents for the family and always selected items she knew they would use and love. She kept a closet for the presents and always had something to give someone for just about any occasion. Doris was an active member of First Missionary Baptist Church of Mabelvale for many years and enjoyed the ladies circle and other activities. Doris and Bob Reynolds celebrated 64 years of marriage before his passing in 2012. Doris was a wonderful role model for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved each of them unconditionally and in her special way always asked what she could cook for them when they visited! Cooking was certainly her love language. Doris was a great cook, and the most requested dishes were fried okra, chicken and dumplings (which she taught granddaughter Leslie to make), and especially pies, cakes and cookies. Her favorite times of the year were the holidays and she spent countless hours in the kitchen preparing foods the entire family loved and enjoyed. Family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Evergreen Living Center and Arkansas Hospice for the great care and support. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 5, 2022, at Philadelphia Cemetery in Prattsville. Online guest book at ashbyfuneralhome.com.
