Paul Dwain Cromwell

Paul Dwain Cromwell, 75, of Fayetteville passed away on Wednesday, November 2. Dwain's life encompassed a number of artistic, creative, and challenging careers. Dwain was born May 30, 1947, in Fort Smith to the late Harold Dean and Marjorie (Chitwood) Cromwell. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Delta Cromwell; brothers, Darrell and Ernest Cromwell; and grandparents, Carl and Evva Chitwood. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, November 18, 2022, at U.S. National Cemetery Pavilion in Fayetteville. Survivors include his son, John Harlan Cromwell and wife Tiffany of Fayetteville; daughter, Shannon Campbell Urcuyo and husband Jonathan of North Little Rock; two grandchildren, Alexi and Ares Urcuyo; three sisters, Deon Picanso of Sterling, Va., Elizabeth Foster Woods and Rebecca Foster Wear, both of Fort Smith; and uncle, Dennis Chitwood of Fort Smith. After Dwain's service in the U.S. Army in Germany, his long and distinguished professional career was book-ended by artistic endeavors. He was a prolific poet and photographer during his 20s and 30s in the Creative Writing program at the University of Arkansas. Later in life, he established a local creative venture, Ozark Wood Art, sculpting many pieces of art for friends and family and others. His work was featured as a regional artisan in the Crystal Bridges American Art Museum Store. In between, he held various roles in communications and marketing, and he became the first Director of Development for Fulbright College, where he was privileged to work with alumni who forged the campaign to save Old Main. While establishing and managing the planned giving program for Fulbright College, Dwain had his hand in many significant projects, including the J. William Fulbright Peace Fountain at the University of Arkansas. Dwain enjoyed time with family, gardening, woodworking, and as well as recent service on the City of Fayetteville Arts Council.
