Matthew Christopher Hargis, 40, of Little Rock, died Thursday, October 6, 2022, at the Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. Matthew was a resident of Little Rock for the past eight years, and a native and former resident of Hamburg for most of his life. He graduated in 2000 as a Hamburg High School honor graduate and was a first baseman on the Hamburg High School Baseball team for all four years. He then attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, the University of Arkansas at Monticello, and the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Matthew worked as a Journeyman Plumber. He was a member of the Hamburg First United Methodist Church and was saved at the First Baptist Church of Hamburg with his grandfather, Rev. Klois Hargis, by his side. Matthew was very creative. His creativity was shown by being a knife maker and drawing in his younger years. He was an avid hunter and loved to fish with his son, Paxon. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Rev. Klois and Marjorie Hickman Hargis; his maternal grandfather, Robert A. Davis, Sr.; three uncles, Christopher Hargis, Wayne Davis, and Robert Alan Davis, Jr. He is survived by his son, whom he adored, Paxon Milam Hargis; two stepsons, Tyson Lane and Maddox Lackey; his parents, Jimmy and Sharon Davis Hargis, all of Hamburg; his sister, Elizabeth Hargis Pack and husband, Tyler, of Conway; his maternal grandmother, Nancy Pryor Davis of Hamburg; a nephew, Bennett Moseley; his special friend, Christine Balin of Little Rock; and his aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Graveside services are 11 a.m. Friday, October 7, 2022, in the Hamburg Cemetery with Rev. Ben Crisman and Rev. Toby Austin officiating. Honorary pallbearers are the graduates of Hamburg High School, Class of 2000. Memorials may be made to the Hamburg First United Methodist Church, 202 S. Main Street, Hamburg, Ark. 71646. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home of Hamburg, Ark.
