Charles Robert "Bob" King, 97, of Jonesboro departed Oct. 14, 2022. He was born Aug. 14, 1925 in Ottumwa, Iowa. He bravely fought in WWII, serving three years on the Battleship USS South Dakota as a Radio-Communication Operator. He attended college in Colorado Springs, then worked in the newspaper business, dabbled in politics, owned several construction companies, and finished his working years as a pipeline right-of-way manager, retiring at the age of 85. Bob was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jonesboro, Ark. He was a member of the Jonesboro Elks Lodge and the American Legion. Finally, Bob serves many years as a volunteer Scouter for Boy Scouts of America and received many awards including the Silver Beaver. He is survived by his children; Lori Anderson, Judi King, and James W. King (Cheryl); four stepchildren: Martha Duez, Danny Scroggs, Emily Sweeney, and Amy Moser; one sister: Beverly Armstrong; eight grandchildren; many great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and a host of other family and friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; Charles and Anna King; three wives, Mildred (Hobart) King, Edith (Gebhart) King, and Connie (Scroggs) King; and two sons, Charles R. King, Jr. and John T. King. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Bernards Hospice Services or Quapaw Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
