Jean Carolyn Hargrave, 82, was born June 7, 1941 to Johnnie and Pauline Walters in Gurdon, Ark., and passed away on December 2, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents. Jean is survived by her husband of 64 years: Jerry Miles Hargrave, two daughters: Marsha Watts, Johnna Trotter (Jerry), four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, brother: Stanley Walters, along with a host of extended family and friends who loved her dearly, as she loved them. Jean was known for her unique kindness to everyone she meets or provides a service to. Jean graduated from Gurdon High School, in the class of 1959. In 1958 she first met her husband-to-be, Jerry, they married September 4, 1959. Living in Little Rock, Jean was a "Stay-at-Home Mom, raising her two daughters" until the daughters started junior high. In 1983 Jean and Jerry (her husband) formed the partnership of Jerry M. Hargrave Tax and Bookkeeping Service in which Jean was the managing partner. Jean held that position for a period of 40 years. Over 40 consecutive tax filing seasons, Jean interviewed an average of 400-500 tax clients each filing season. She had the unique ability to greet each by their first name only. Most all the returning clients each year consider her their personal friend. In 2018 Jean was forced to retire because of her illness. Today, the returning clients of Jerry M. Hargrave Tax & Bookkeeping are still greeted by their first name because Jean Carolyn Hargrave made them her friend. Jean has served her church, Village Creek Baptist (formerly Wakefield Baptist) over 40 years as Sunday School Secretary, served as a Deacons wife, worked with elementary aged children in Up-Ward basketball and other children ministries. Above all of the different ministries she has served on, her favorite is the love she has for all of the members of Village Creek Baptist Church and her Pastor. Funeral service will be 12 p.m., Thursday, December 7, 2023 at Village Creek Baptist Church in Mabelvale, with visitation beginning at 11 a.m., prior to the service. Burial will follow at Rose Hedge Cemetery in Gurdon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Village Creek Baptist Church. Online guestbook: www.rollerfuneralhomes.com/drummond.
