Gwinnie Doris "Gwin" Cantrell, 77, of Leslie, left this world of illness and disease and began her life for an eternity of perfection and peace on Thursday, December 29, 2022. She was born in Leslie, Ark., on May 31, 1945, to Dafton Cleveland and Willodean Cohey Lewis. Gwin was a spunky woman, full of life, joy, and energy. She defined the quote, "you just can't keep a good woman down." From karaoke to dancing, to sharing her opinions, she was the life of any gathering and never thought twice about telling you what she thought. Not only did she enjoy giving advice, but also appreciated a quality conversation just talking about life and how to navigate it, with anyone who took the time to spend with her. Animals were her constant love, and she took great pride in giving regularly to the Humane Society. Baking came naturally for Gwin and her ever-famous rum cake will always be synonymous with her name. She showed the world that you could be as tough as nails, but have a heart of gold, and love just as hard. Her life was a testament to what she professed to believe, and you rarely doubted her because she meant what she said, and she said what she meant. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, "her beloved Scotty," a brother, Devoy Lewis, and a great-granddaughter, Vivian Eby. Gwin is survived by her daughter, Toni Martin Hinds (Steve); her son, Terry Lee Martin (Erika); siblings, Ladoy Lewis (Kay), Glenda House, Travis Lewis (Carla), Vern Byrd (JR Moore), Gayla Feist (Kelly), Lorene Eaton (Cliff), Jewel Eaton (John), Sheryl Puckett (Roy), Carson Lewis, Sherman Lewis, Deloy Lewis (Amanda); eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, 29 nieces and nephews, 45 grand-nieces and nephews, 11 great-grand-nieces and nephews, and many other extended family members and friends. She will be missed but her memory will be cherished, and her legacy will continue through those who loved and cared for her. A Gathering of Remembrance will be Tuesday, January 3, 2023, drop-in from 12-4 p.m., at 230 South Mountain Road, Marshall, Ark. 72650. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in Gwin's name to the Van Buren County Animal Shelter: 187 Tester St., Clinton, Ark. 72031.
