Sterling Larson Henry, 89, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2024. Born on September 1, 1934, Sterling was the cherished son of the late Ellis and Carrie Henry. He grew up surrounded by his seven siblings, who preceded him in death: Reba Brownie, Rena Leek, Darnell Friar, Ruth Bounds, Retha Griffin, E.R. Henry, and R.A. Henry. Sterling was survived by his three children, Leslie Henry, Betty Ann Hurt (Rodger Hurt Junior), and Martin Henry (Amber Henry); his grandchildren, Rodger Hurt III (Maggie Hurt), Peyton Hurt, Eleanor Henry, and Ellis Henry; and his dog, Bo. Sterling Henry was born in Dumas, Ark. He dearly loved his family and being a farmer. He was so proud to be from Dumas, where he lived all of his life and appreciated all his many friendships. He was an active member of the community. He married his bride, Pat Henry, and they had three children. Sterling was famous for his peanut butter fudge, poetry writing, storytelling, his love of books, and sense of humor. Above all, his favorite thing was his afternoon drive around the farm with his faithful dog, Bo. He loved the outdoors. Some of his favorite memories are from his hunting clubs, Big Island Hunting Club, and Diamond Point Hunting Club, where he made many lifelong friendships. Sterling started his farming operation with his brother, E.R., in 1956. The brothers were known for their attention to detail and took extreme pride in their crops. Later in Sterling's career, he was delighted to go into partnership with his son, Martin. Sterling enjoyed teaching his son the art of farming. The family would like to thank all of his caregivers because there were so many people who helped along the way. A special thanks to his doctor, Grace Raja, whom he dearly loved from CARTI Cancer Center. We thank God for opening the gates of heaven for our wonderful father. Graveside memorial services at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2024, Walnut Lake Cemetery with Rev. John David Walt officiating.
