Spot on, Deering. US taxpayers shouldering most of the costs for Trump's terrible tantrum tariffs.

    Humor? . . .I don't get it? Explanation please.
Lately, I've failed to see the humor in several of Deering's comics.

Maybe, it's because he's imparting wisdom and not cheap laughs. That's very little to laugh about when looking at the craziness wrought by Herr Trump, our Furor in Chief.

    Perfect response, Jake. Thank you.

And this is one of Deering's best in a while.

Spot on! Deering has another bingo!
Conservative: perhaps you don't get it because you're a conservative, as all of the liberals so far have no problem with understanding. Let me explain it to you:
It's a riff on Trump's tariffs which he claims China is paying and hurting China but anyone with a lick of sense knows Americans are paying at the cash register. The sarcasm and the humor is that the tariff's aren't hurting China, they are hurting the American citizen every time they buy something and pay more for it than they were paying. See the lady being hurt with pulling out more dollars? Yeah, she isn't China.

Another great and thoughtful cartoon. At least President Tweetyfingers is good for a couple of things: cartoon fodder and the fact-checking industry.

So the implied "humor" is that the consumer at the checkout is paying too much for goods manufactured in China? In that case, then why are American "manufacturers"/importers paying to have their products manufactured in China.
Why? . . .because of the cheap labor cost in China.

The situation is that tariffs bring the cost of imported (e.g., from China) to parity with what it would cost to produce and market a locally manufactured product, i.e. with US jobs and labor, compared the same cheaply produced Chinese product. Go to a big box store like Home Depot or Lowes, grab a handful of nuts, bolts and screws, and notice the poor quality of the imported hardware. You get what you pay for.

Conservative. Not sure what aisle you go to, but all of my imported nails and screws are of excellent quality. Do I wish they were made in the USA? Sure. But the way President Tweetyfingers is going about this is just making everything worse, and making us all suffer. How does that improve life for the average American?

About "So the implied "humor" is that the consumer at the checkout is paying too much for goods manufactured in China?"

First, it isn't "humor", it is humor. Everyone commenting here gets it except you. When one person doesn't get the joke or find it funny, the problem usually isn't everyone else.

Second......Why, no. Americans were obviously satisfied with the price they WERE paying. Now they are paying MORE, and being gaslighted by the administration that China is paying it instead of them. The administration says China is paying the tariffs, not the folks the lady in the cartoon actually pulling the money out of her purse and paying MORE of it than before.

It has apparently escaped your notice, but Americans have chosen the price/quality ratio of what they have been getting, and most of them aren't eager to pay more for the same product.....and they resent being gaslighted that China is paying for something when the dollars are coming out of our own pockets.

You know.....I'm thinking you actually understood the joke, but asked for an explanation because you didn't like it.
