Has no regard for life

When President Trump disrespects Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and now Dr. Anthony Fauci with tweets or at rallies, they both receive death threats immediately after. Governor Whitmer and her family could have been kidnapped and killed. Dr. Fauci now requires security wherever he goes. He has worked for six presidents of both parties, and this is the first time he has ever needed security.

I believe President Trump has no regard for any human life in America. He has convinced people that the coronavirus was nothing to worry about from the first day. It was a hoax, a Democratic lie, it will go away on its own when the weather gets warmer, etc. He has told people that kids are immune, young people only have very mild cases, and that the people who do die don't matter anyway because of age or other health issues.

This election, please show Trump you do matter.

Keeping our liberties

Let me ask a question: Have you ever seen a happy liberal? I think you're more likely to find hair on a frog or be struck by lightning. Honestly, it seems they are always the crowd of doom and gloom, cynical, pessimistic, angry, untruthful, fearful, and perpetually miserable. A perfect example of this is found in mainstream media "hosts" and the vitriol they spew incessantly. Liberals delight in mocking those who believe in something they don't.

I believe they also seek to destroy the Constitution, the America we've known, and won't reveal what their nefarious intentions are. To them, the end justifies the means. What's hard to understand is capitalism has given them a quality of life like no other, yet they would gladly trade it for socialism. You cannot appease these individuals no matter what you give them. Quoting Churchill, "Each one hopes that if he feeds the crocodile enough, the crocodile will eat him last."

This pandemic has given us a glimpse of what life would be like with a liberal socialist administration such as the Harris/Biden ticket, because we know who would be calling the shots. And it won't be Biden. Regulations and mandates would be copious. Everyday life would be altered in ways unimaginable. And all of Obama's cronies would reappear.

Of course, the opposite of the socialists would be the freedom-loving. I'm speaking of a person who truly loves this country, respects the Constitution, projects optimism, and treasures the values that have made the United States the envy of the rest of the world.

So, we are facing this: We either keep our liberties or give them up. The coming election will be the defining event as to whether or not our republic continues.

Like Patrick Henry, I say, "Give me liberty or give me death!"

Oozed condescension

It seems David Barham channeled Paul Greenberg's trademark oozing condescension in last Monday's unsigned editorial when he regurgitated the Republican talking point from the Sunday news shows. Trying to create something out of nothing, the Trumpists are offended at the arrogance (gasp!) that Biden said the voters didn't "deserve" to know whether he would attempt to pack the court. This from a party that didn't even bother to author a new platform with any positions on any issues.

But the last time I checked the holy of holy U.S. Constitution, the makeup of the high court is determined by Congress, not the president. Did I miss something? Is Biden running for Congress? While Trump fiddles, Rome burns, and still the wizened editorialist tries desperately to change the subject. But why? Perhaps he, too, is so arrogant that he cannot repent from his colossal malpractice in foisting the worst president in history upon us, his gentle, weary readers.

Lot of power in votes

In these hate-filled and violent times, the issues of this country could not be more dire. Voting is a right and a privilege. All voters are complicit in whom we vote for and what we vote for. I won't vote to escalate this hatred and violence ... leaving what kind of a world for our children?

At the age of 71, I respect other people's religion and politics unless they are going to adversely affect me and those I love. As a woman, I have always felt every woman has the right to make her own choices about her mind and body. A religious person might be against abortion, which is their right, but don't force that belief on those who feel differently. No man should ever have the right to make those decisions for women he knows, has never met nor ever will ... that is vanity.

Drama with people's lives at stake, and already over 220,000 dead is intolerable! Compulsive lying is the cause of multitudes of these people losing their lives. My choice for presidency is "decency and honesty," and only Joe Biden is offering that. He is intelligent, empathetic, and will surround himself with like people who are experienced in their fields, not just yahoos who will kiss his rear.

You hold a lot of power in that vote ... don't take it lightly ... always vote with conscience, and don't be self-centered.

The moral questions

How often do we genuinely ask ourselves, "What is the nature of moral courage?" Does the presidential election demand careful consideration to this question? Are we OK with the worst impulses of Machiavellian politics becoming the norm? Can we justify dark and unsavory means to stand on "higher ground"?

Are we prepared to allow our innocent children to just get used to crude language that is polluted by deceit and deception? Do we want to infect our communities with the entitlement to cruelly attack those who oppose us with foul and vindictive language? Is there a moral dimension to our choice, or is it only about winning for "my side" regardless what is true or just? Are we willing to accept that honesty and basic decency no longer matter in America? Are we OK with a hateful heart in an "us versus them" America?

When our soul faces the final judgment, what will the answers to our moral questions reveal?
