Why make a change?

As I watched the RNC convention, I wondered why America has to elect Joe Biden to get all the things we have, and have since Trump was elected president. Fox News has been slamming Biden, saying Biden will destroy the country by doing what Trump is doing now, so why should we change? With four more years, Trump will be in a position to get rid of all the things that are holding him back from running the country like all the businesses that that he has been in charge of, which by his account made him a multibillionaire, so he can pass his business acumen to the rest of the country, and make everyone rich!

Vote for Republicans

After watching the political conventions, I'm convinced that the Republican plan is best designed to keep America on a path of peace, prosperity and freedom. It seems the Democrats avoided discussing their plan because it's full of anti-American socialism. Instead of disclosing their plans, they simply spent four days bashing Trump and America. Biden stated that he wanted to transform America. Transform to what?

Part of this transformation will include Biden's alliance with self-proclaimed socialist Bernie Sanders. Together they quietly developed a 110-page blueprint for a progressive presidency. Google Biden-Sanders manifesto. His running mate, Kamala Harris, actually has a voting record left of Sanders.

In a recent ABC interview, Biden promised to only raise taxes on those making over $400,000 a year. But what he failed to mention is his plan to repeal the Trump tax cut. I believe that means, pretty much, everyone's taxes will go up under a Biden presidency.

Biden voted for the NAFTA trade deal that destroyed thousands of American manufacturing companies and millions of jobs. Thankfully, Trump renegotiated a more favorable deal with the new USMCA.

Many Democrats are also calling for defunding the police. Can any sane person actually believe defunding or reducing the funds for police will make us safer? Can you imagine a social worker being called to arbitrate a violent domestic dispute?

I'm voting for Donald J. Trump and other Republicans this November. Let's improve America instead of transforming it into something none of us will recognize in eight years.

We can stop madness

Where has common sense gone? Since when do we stand by and do nothing while criminals are desecrating private businesses and our courthouses? Will we be forced to stand by as we watch hoodlums and angry mobs force us into submission? Will we allow them to destroy our freedoms? Those who do not condemn this behavior are actually condoning it.

Will we be forced to use baseball bats after the government takes away our guns and does away with the police? Do we want our taxes to fund infanticide? Will our consciences allow us to live like this?

We can stop this madness! Vote to make America rational again.

Level of enthusiasm

I originally intended to reply with outrage to the letter from Gordon Swaim that discussed the level of enthusiasm of each party over the selection of Sen. Kamala Harris. My first reaction was that the newspaper was allowing a racist dog whistle by suggesting the Democrats will not support a woman of color. After watching the two conventions, I realize Mr. Swaim may have announced the complete opposite.

Senator Harris is well accomplished and well liked by the Democrats, and the enthusiastic reply to her nomination and speech attracted almost a million more viewers than the blah re-nomination and speech by Vice President Mike Pence. In my opinion, it is becoming evident that Senator Harris was an excellent choice and will attract a massive bloc of voters in the election. Pence, who was a failed governor of his state, received a meh response from Republicans and was panned by Faux News at the convention. It just shows that he is another poor choice by the president.

Thankful for workers

There are so many vicious letters put in Voices that I thought I would submit a different kind of letter ... one of praise and thankfulness.

With all the wind and rain we had with Laura, our city yard waste people were out Friday morning, picking up stacks of limbs and debris. Normally I try to bag all that up to make it easier for them, but didn't get a chance before they swooped in and put it in their truck, and one even raked up the curb. They were loaded and gone before I could walk back up my driveway.

I have lived here for 48 years and they have always been the nicest, most helpful people, and I have seen very little praise for what they do. I have seen a lot of hate the last 10 years, and I think these workers deserve a pat on the back for their hard manual labor that they still take pride in. This is the makings of the America I respect and love.
