Early morning altercation leaves two shot

An early morning shooting following an altercation at an apartment complex has left two men injured with gunshot wounds.

According to a release sent out by the Little Rock Police Department, at approximately 3:12 a.m., Freddie Baker, 26, was taking out the trash outside of his apartment at 1400 Old Forge Road when three black males approached him.

The group began to fight, which spilled back into his apartment, where Baker stated Marcus Gardner, 24, pulled out a gun and shot him. After being shot, Baker said he wrestled the gun away from Gardner and shot him, after which all three suspects fled to their car and drove away.

An officer observed a vehicle leaving the complex at a high rate of speed, following the sound of a gunshot.

The officer pursued, and after a short chase, pulled the car over on Reservoir Road, where the driver got out and fled on foot. Gardner, a passenger in the vehicle, advised the officer he had been shot. He also identified the fleeing driver as "Devonta" but didn't give a last name. Gardner was taken to University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and was treated for a gunshot wound to the right hip.

The suspect identified as "Devonta" is still at large.

Baker was transferred to University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the left arm.

The suspects — listed on the report as Baker, Gardner, and "Devonta" — are charged with first degree battery, a misdemeanor fleeing charge and pursuit. Both Gardner and Baker were released pending an investigation.
