The Clinton Bridge between Little Rock and North Little Rock was closed for more than an hour Wednesday afternoon while authorities worked to convince a man who was threatening to jump to climb back over the rail to safety.

The man, whose name was not released, eventually agreed to do so, emerging from beneath the span shortly before 5:30 p.m. and then accepting a hand pulling him back across the rail from the ledge.

Crews were called before 4:30 p.m. The man was at first visible over the west rail of the pedestrian span, peering over the edge into the water from near the bridge's central, highest point.

He then disappeared for a time beneath the structure, occasionally dangling his legs.
