Officers responded at about 4 a.m. to a Shell station at 11911 Mara Lynn Road, near North Bowman Road on the city's west side. They found Jarvis Deion Garner, 20, of Little Rock, lying on the ground near a gas pump. He'd been shot.

Garner was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His death is the 19th homicide of the year in Little Rock.

A gas station employee, Nicholas Lamon Beasley, 28, was arrested in the killing. Police said Beasley shot Garner during a confrontation in the parking lot. Beasley had reportedly asked Garner to leave the property before the shooting.

Police spokesman Lt. Steve McClanahan said surveillance cameras recorded the encounter between Garner and Beasley. McClanahan said it "happened pretty quick."

"He went outside, made contact with the person that he shot, and then he shot him," he said.

McClanahan said it was unclear if the men knew each other.

Further details were not released.

Beasley was charged with first-degree murder. He was being held in the Pulaski County jail late Monday. His first court appearance in the slaying is set for this morning.

Court records show Beasley has no previous criminal history.
