NEW YORK — Oil futures jumped to a record above $97 a barrel, and diesel prices set a national record at the pump Tuesday as worries about inventories and troubles overseas continued to affect transactions.
The federal Energy Information Administration reported that diesel-fuel prices reached a national average of $3.303 a gallon, while AAA put the figure even higher, at $3.346. Both calculations were said to be a record.
