LITTLE ROCK — Man wounds self, faces 2 gun charges
Sherwood police charged a man Wednesday with possession of a firearm on school property and discharge of a weapon within city limits after, officers said, he accidentally shot himself while waiting to pick up his child from school.
Justin Willig , 26, of Sherwood told police Tuesday that his handgun discharged as he sat in his truck and waited for his child to leave Sylvan Hills Elementary School just before noon. The bullet pierced his left hand and left leg.
Willig managed to stagger into the school building, where a nurse called 911. He was taken to a local hospital and treated.
