Earnings report

— Companies reporting quarterly earnings Monday included:

Humana Inc., the health insurer, reported a profit of $302.4 million, or $1.78 a share, up from $159.2 million, or 95 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue rose 12 percent to $6.32 billion. Shares fell $1.81 to close at $73.75.

Kellogg Co. reported a profit of $305 million, or 76 cents a share, up from $281 million, or 70 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue rose 6 percent to $3 billion. Shares fell $1.33 to close at $53.11.

Northwest Airlines Corp. reported a profit of $244 million, or 93 cents a share, up from a loss of $1.18 billion, or $13.50 a share, a year ago.Revenue dipped to $3.38 billion, from $3.41 billion a year ago. Shares rose 29 cents to close at $17.64.

Radio Shack reported a profit of $46.3 million, or 34 cents a share, up from a loss of $16.3 million, or 12 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue dropped 9.4 percent, to $960.3 million from $1.06 billion a year ago. Shares rose 80 cents to close at $20.42.

Verizon Communications Inc. reported a profit of $1.27 billion, or 44 cents a share, down from $1.92 billion, or 66 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue rose 5.8 percent to $23.8 billion. Shares rose 39 cents to close at $45.99.
